Time to shed some tears to fill the bone-dry Barton Creek Greenbelt

Last Wednesday, Chris and I decided to break in our new hiking boots on a hike around the Greenbelt. Maybe a little optimistic, Chris even wore his bathing suit in case we could find water to cool off in, as the Greenbelt is usually full of natural, sparkling waterfalls and swimming holes. We started out at the Twin Falls entrance and walked about a quarter mile past Sculpture Falls…We can sadly report that Barton Creek was bone dry on almost our whole hike.

Last summer, this was a giant tub of water!

We found a couple of tiny pools that the dogs refreshed themselves in, but definitely not swimmable for us human kind. We still enjoyed the hike and had a wonderful time outside, but we couldn’t help but feel distressed to observe our beloved Greenbelt to be so dry, dusty, and dull, compared to its usual vibrant, lush self. If anyone knows an effective Rain Dance, now’s the time to break it out!

Last year, this was Austin's own paradise!

Same place as previous picture! Now just a murky, muddy puddle of what used to be.
